Another Christmas! How did that arrive so quickly? It only seemed that last week it was summer!
Are we ready for Christmas? There always seems to be so much to plan, sort, & arrange; to buy, wrap & write; to cook, eat & drink, then it still seems we have to rush out and get that which we have forgotten – food, presents, cards, wrapping paper…
As we prepare for Christmas there are also the stresses and strains of trying to make this Christmas a memorable one, a good one, a perfect one, wanting to keep everyone happy, healthy and harmonious.
Personally, for us in our home, there is also the added pressure of preparing my talks for all the Christmas meetings and activities we are holding to which you are all warmly invited.
One for the Christmas Craft evening (December 20th at 6:30pm); one each for the Sunday morning before Christmas and the Carol service (December 23rd at 10:45am & 5:30pm) and then the Christmas morning service (at 10am).
Thankfully people do not need some new sparkling insights or thoughts, as the wonder of the reason for Christmas is thrilling; if rightly understood. It is thrilling that the great God of heaven gave the best He had in heaven, as God the Son took to himself a real human body so He could be the Saviour of the world. The name “Jesus” means (as the angel told Joseph) “He shall save his people from their sins”. Christmas is all about the birth of the Rescuer from heaven, the one who came to rescue our world. The angels proclaimed this good news to the shepherds “Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”
I pray that in all the busyness and business of Christmas we will have time to remember the fullest meaning of Christmas and that we would all know God’s blessing on our loved ones as we go into 2019.
