A Pagan's Rebuke! (Jonah 1:6)

Rev Gareth JamesRev Gareth James, May 30, 2021
Part of the Jonah series, preached at a Sunday Evening service

Jonah is fast asleep, possibly snoring so loudly that he drowns out the noise of the storm the ship is in. We will consider sleeping Jonah, but move on to see the rebuke he was given by the ship’s captain, who was shocked to find anyone asleep, who told Jonah off and told him to pray to his God. Here God again puts His finger on Jonah through this pagan captain and reminds Jonah of the privilege of prayer he was not doing. Our God can use strange means to challenge His backsliding and runaway people! We should stay close to God and not try to run from His plans and purposes for our lives, else His finger can be on our life and things could become very uncomfortable for us!
