Joy 2 (John 16:22)

Rev Gareth JamesRev Gareth James, July 11, 2021
Part of the The Upper Room series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Last week we noted some false ideas of this joy and contrasted spiritual joy with legitimate earthly joys. This morning we will see joy and its origin. The joy the Bible speaks of is an emotion, a feeling, but is much more than that. It is a confident delight in the certainty of spiritual realities and truths – it is not something based on illusion and temporary. As we look at this subject we will see it is the joy of God in being God and He wants us to know and experience His joy in Himself, so it is the joy of God! This is an amazing and awesome joy and we know something of it in the joy of our salvation. This causes us to be joyful in hope – which ultimately points us to being in the joy of heaven and that joy known for all eternity as we joy in God and all He has done for us in Jesus.
