If I am a sinner, Christ is righteous.  If I am poor, Christ is rich.  If I am foolish, Christ is wise.  If I am a captive, Christ is present to set me free.  If I am forsaken, Christ takes me to himself.  If I am cast down, Christ consoles me.  If I am weary, Christ refreshes me.

This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “If this is impossible in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be impossible in My eyes?” declares the LORD of Hosts. 

God anticipates a weak faith, which considers everything impossible when it hears these great and splendid promises and then looks at the present.  He therefore here wishes to strengthen this weak faith and does it in this way, by telling the people to close their eyes and not look at the present but solely to consider the Word of God, who surely is greater than all things present.
